Visiting families in Paynesville

2 februari 2017 - Monrovia, Liberia

The organisation Wing of refuge, wich Adrienne and Winston have set up in Liberia, supports families who need help. Today we visited a girl Naomi, they support her and her family. Her mother died. The organisation pays the schoolmoney for her so she can go to school among other things. She lives with her grandparents and other familie members in Paynesville, which is close to Monrovia. The grandparents have a little store by their house to make some money. They sell sugar, condensed milk among other things.

Then we visited Rose. A hardworking special woman who set up a little soap factory. She worked with Adrienne during the ebole period helping people. She showed me the soap factory. She also makes beautiful flipflops using beadsfor the straps. We also met her husband and children. She came along for our next stop: a visit to Jeremy. A 10 year old boy that lives with his aunt. He lives in a former infected ebola area. His father and many more people in the village died of ebola and during that time the village was in quarentine. The woman his father was married to left with her child, abondoning Jeremy and his brother? Their aunt came to live with them and takes care of them. His aunt has a 3 year old girl and is pregnant. His mother returned to the village for the moment. She has twin girls which are 2 years old. Her husband left. They live in a shack made of mudblocks and a roof of corrugated iron. It is very small. There is hardly any furniture. But most importantly there is hardly enough food. Wing of refuge pays for his school and helps them with other things. Jeremy showed Winston his schoolwork. Rose showed me around the village. Most children like to have their picture taken. It's hard to imagine that 80% of the people live like that.
