To the market and the beach

6 februari 2017 - Monrovia, Liberia

My last day today. Time went fast, but is also feels I'm here alot longer then just a week. It's been great! Today is another hot and humid day. Joke and I shared the room. We slept well. First we tried to find an ATM for Joke to get some money. The third one was a succes. We visited the water side market. Very busy, noisy but also very interesting to experience. Alot to see. Winston exchanged our US dollars for LD's. They sell everything; food and non-food. Plastic buckets and storageboxes, jewelry, clothing, tools, even medicine. There are wooden stands they sell from, but also from wheelbarrows. The foodmarket is inside. The most remarkle thing I saw where pigspaws. I bought a piece of cloth with typical African colours. We asked the lady who sold it where she got it from. She said: 'from Holland!' Well, the design is very African...
After that we went to a glass bead factory and store. They make jewelry from it. They showed us how they make the beads from the glass. They crush the glass and then put it in little molds. They heat it in a oven wich for 45 minutes. Joke and I both bought some jewelry and I also bought a tie dye piece of cloth she made herself too.
The rest of the day we spent at the beach. There is a long coastline with beach along Liberia. We went to Barnes beach. Close to the appartment. We had a wonderful time there. It was a very nice beach with lounge chairs and umbrella's made of palmleaves and even a hammock. There was nobody on the beach. The water has a very nice and warm temperature, but the waves where pretty high. Adrienne and I took a nice stroll along the beach. We had lunch there. I ordered fried rice with vegetables but got fried rice with fish. Well, we tried all the dishes from each other so we shared the fish too. I had a papaya juice drink. Then a couple of people came on the beach with a drone. They were flying it and a man and a woman were recorded with it. The were running on the beach back and forth and being all romantic together. It turned out they were shooting a video for Kizzy W. a Liberian singer. He was the guy on the beach. Winston arranged for us that we could take a picture with him. We called him our manager. So the 3 golden girls are in the picture with him. Kizzy W has a song out now called 'Wait na' and he told us he also covered 'Hello' from Adele. So we looked it up right away and found his songs on you tube. That was fun. At home we ate Winston famous Palm butter. A dish made of the palmfruit and fish. It was very good. We talked for a bit and then went to bed. We had a wonderful fun day together.
