Going home

7 februari 2017 - Monrovia, Liberia

Yesterday we already found out that my flight leaves around 10.50 this morning instead of 5.15 but Adrienne was called in the middle of the night (!) by Royal Air Maroc to tell her that again. They also told her they wil put me in a hotel for the night and that my flight to Amsterdam wil be on wednesday morning. That meant that we could leave a little later. I got up at 6 a.m. Winston made breakfast: Planting with mayonaise and ketchup. Planting is a big banana. He cooked planting. It tasted really good. I am really going to miss Winston's cooking! Thank you Winston for the wonderful meals! Before we left Rose called for me to wish me a good trip home. That was so nice of her. She is such a wonderful, hardworking and powerful woman! Much respect for her! I am so glad to have met her.
We left at 7.45 and arrived at the airport at 8.45. There we said goodbye. That was hard for me. It's been such a great and wonderful experience. It was so nice to meet Winston. He is a wonderful and caring man. I really admire him for what he does so passionately for these people. And Adrienne too, of course. She is so inspiring and caring. So much respect for them. They are a great team together! We also had quality time together wich was also very special. We made some great memories! Liberia is in my heart forever! It's a beautiful country. Thank you dear Adrienne (and Winston)for letting me stay with you and the wonderful time we spent together. I only met Joke yesterday and we had so much fun. Thank you Joke for the fun (short) time.

The plane left at 10.30. It was cloudy when I left so I couldn't see much when we lifted of. But after an hour or so the sky cleared and I saw the desert. Sand, sand all over the place. Slowly it turned into greener scenery and mountains and eventually cities. We landed at 14.20. The temperature here is alot different from Liberia: Not humid and about 22 degrees celsius.
After being sent back and forth to baggage claim and customs it turns out it didn't need to pick up my luggage. It is transferred directly. They gave me a voucher for a hotel, including dinner and breakfast. I took a bus that brought me and other passengers there. I am at the Relax hotel near the airport. A very nice hotel, room with a view over the pool and garden. I relaxed at the poolside for a while until the sun was gone behind the hotel.
