Going to church and a visit

5 februari 2017 - Monrovia, Liberia

This morning we went to church. On the way we picked up Alem, an Ethiopian man who is coming to start up the speed school.   He also went to church with us. The church is in the same building we were yesterday with the kids. When we came in a man was talking about a story of the bible. It is sometimes hard to understand for me. People can ask questions or talk about it. They have a choir in front of the church of about 6 people. 3 of them were wearing white and darkred robes, two other ladies wore a white blouse and darkred skirts. In the other part in the front sat the pastor and later on also other people and Winston. The singing is beautiful with clapping and chanting. Several people spoke and they collect money for the church. In the beginning there were not very many people but more and more people came in and eventuelly the church was full of people. They were wearing beautiful colorful clothes, espacially the women. It's all hand made.Through the open window we saw a girl washing her little sibling. That was very cute. A woman with a sleeping baby on her lap, a man ironing clothes and a boy eating.
At one point people started to give us a hand and welcoming us. Every first sunday of the month they also collect money for the pastor. The pastor is a friend of Winston and they have known each other since childhood. Winston spoke too. He was passionate and told a bit of his life story, his time in prison and what he had learned about it. That was powerful. He even mentioned me and Adrienne. We were also welcomed and were asked to say something in front of everybody. Some of the children from yesterday were also in church. It is nice to see when they recognize you. They came up to us when we left and followed us to the car. Some of them spontaneously give you a hug or grab your hand.
After church Winston dropped me of at their house. Adrienne went to pick up her friend Joke from the airport, who is also going to be staying with them. When I came home there was still nog electricity. I started cooking macaroni at 15.00. In the meantime Winston had come home and was cooking dinner for tomorrow.

At 17.00 three of Adrienne's friends arrived; Grace, Rose (I met before) and Bettea. Adrienne showed us her pictures from Holland, Thailand and Switzerland. We drank Dutch tea and had a stroopwafel with it. They gave Adrienne a picture for her birthday because she wasn't here at that time. It shows Adrienne on her birthday last year. They also gave me a beautiful scarf you wear over your left shoulder. And they thanked me for Adrienne living here. She is one in a million they said. I could't agree more. It was a lot of fun. I showed them the clothes that Lucienne gave and they all choose one piece of clothing. They looked great in it. Adrienne wil give the rest of the clothes to other families who need it. We had dinner together. We had a great time with the 'girls club'.
